Installation Guide for Govee Curtain Lights
Govee Curtain Lights can be installed using adhesive hooks, seamless nails, or by hanging them from an existing curtain. Always test the lights before mounting them, and clean your installation surface for the best adhesion.
Before You Start
Unbox the lights and test the device. Connect the control box to the power adapter and plug it into an outlet. Turn the lights on to ensure they are working properly before mounting.
Clean your installation surface. Use a dry cloth to wipe down the surface where you plan to install the lights. For adhesive methods, using an alcohol wipe will ensure a strong bond.
Untangle the light strings. Straighten the individual strands so they hang down cleanly before you begin the mounting process.
Mounting Options
Adhesive Hooks
(This is a nail-free method ideal for smooth, indoor surfaces.)
Attach the included VHB (Very High Bond) gums to the back of the G4 hooks.
Mark your surface at the desired height, making sure the marks are level and spaced evenly. Govee's H70B1 user manual suggests installing the lights at least 7.21 feet (2.2 m) high with intervals of about 0.5 feet (15 cm).
Press the adhesive hooks firmly onto the surface marks for at least 10 seconds.
Once the hooks are secure, snap the G4 hooks around the top wire of the lights to hang them in place.
Seamless Nails
(This is a more permanent installation method for surfaces where you can use nails.)
Mark the installation surface at even intervals, keeping the marks level.
Fix the seamless nails into the surface at each marked spot.
Hang the top wire of the curtain lights onto the installed nails.
Existing Curtain
For temporary setups, you can simply drape the lights over an existing curtain or use the G4 hooks to attach them to the curtain fabric.
For Added Stability
For installations that require clean, straight lines (like displaying custom images), you can use the included plastic straps to hold the bottoms of the strands in place. Some users also use additional channels or guides, like vinyl siding strips or PVC pipe, to secure the lights at the bottom.
Connecting The Lights To the Govee App
Download the app. Get the "Govee Home" app from the App Store or Google Play.
Enable Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone or tablet.
Pair your device.
Open the app and tap the "+" icon in the top right corner.
Search for your specific model (e.g., H70B1) or allow the app to automatically detect the device.
Follow the on-screen instructions. This may involve pressing the button on the Wi-Fi module to complete the pairing.
Connect to Wi-Fi. Follow the app's prompts to connect your device to your home Wi-Fi network. Ensure you connect to a 2.4GHz network, as 5GHz is not supported.
Creative Lighting Techniques Using The App
There are several ways to create and animate custom designs for your
Govee Curtain Lights using the DIY mode within the Govee Home app. For the best results, ensure your curtain lights are hung straight and that you have the latest version of the Govee Home app installed.
Uploading a Custom GIF
This method is ideal for displaying fun, pre-made animations on your lights, like a dancing ghost for Halloween.
Instructions:
Find or create your GIF. The Govee app supports animated GIFs, but they may need to be optimized for the curtain's resolution. Transparent backgrounds and high-contrast designs work best.
Open the Govee Home app and navigate to your curtain lights device.
Tap the DIY button on the device page.
Tap the pencil icon, then the yellow plus icon to start a new DIY canvas.
Name your animation and select a thumbnail icon.
Choose GIF as the effect type.
Click the plus icon in the canvas box to browse your phone's library and select your GIF.
Adjust the size and position of the GIF to fit the canvas, then tap Apply to see a preview on your lights.
If you like the result, tap Save to add it to your DIY list.
Scrolling Text
Perfect for holiday greetings, party messages, or a running news ticker. This requires using the DIY's text element and adding spaces to create a smooth scroll.
Instructions:
Open the Govee Home app and go to your curtain lights device.
Navigate to the DIY section.
Tap the pencil icon, then the yellow plus icon to create a new canvas.
Tap the text icon and type your message. Choose a color and font size.
To create a scrolling effect, add several spaces to both the beginning and the end of your text.
Position the text entirely off the canvas to the right.
Tap the Move icon, and adjust the animation settings.
Set the starting position to the far right, and the end position to the far left.
Adjust the speed to your preference. Adding a slight bounce can give it a more natural look.
Preview the animation by tapping the play icon. Once you're satisfied, tap Save.
Drawing a Falling Snow Animation
This effect is a classic holiday favorite and is simple to create using the DIY finger sketch feature.
Instructions:
Go to the DIY section for your curtain lights.
Tap the pencil icon and create a new canvas.
Tap the brush icon to begin painting.
Choose a white or light blue color.
Tap individual pixels across the canvas, concentrating more at the top. This creates the individual "snowflakes."
Tap the Move icon.
Select the entire canvas or each individual "snowflake" you drew.
Choose a downward movement for the animation direction.
Set a relatively slow speed.
Tap Apply and see your custom-made snow begin to fall.
For a more complex effect, create a multi-layered canvas (supported on Curtain Lights 2 models and above) with different colors and speeds to make the snow appear more dynamic.
Create a Crackling Fireplace
You can create an immersive, cozy atmosphere with a custom fire animation.
Instructions:
Go to the DIY section for your curtain lights.
Create a new canvas and tap the paint bucket tool.
Start by painting the bottom of the canvas with red, orange, and yellow. Use different shades to create a flickering effect.
Use the brush tool to add random, darker orange and red pixels to the bottom to represent burning embers.
Set the animation.
Tap the Move icon and animate the different color layers. Have the red and orange move slowly upwards, and add a flickering effect to the "embers" at the bottom.
Set a Blink effect for some of the pixels to create a random crackle.
Save the animation and add it to a scene. Consider grouping it with orange ambient lights to create a full-room immersive experience.
Generate AI Powered Scenes
(Requires Curtain Lights 2 or PRO Versions) For more advanced models, you can use Govee's AI Lighting Bot to generate complex scenes with a simple text prompt.
Instructions:
Navigate to your curtain lights device in the Govee app.
Tap the AI Lighting Bot button.
Type in a descriptive prompt, such as "a calm, animated waterfall" or "a city skyline at night with moving car lights".
The bot will generate an effect based on your prompt.
Preview the animation and tap Apply. You can save the effect to your DIY list for later use.
